Cloud Computing

Here in this Blog, we are about to learn what is Cloud Computing? Different cloud deployment models, Traditional Data centers, Cloud Service Models,  Key Cloud Concepts, Benefits of cloud computing and Different Cloud Providers.

Shall we start?

 What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is convenient and On-demand network access which can provide its services like Networks, Compute, Storage, Servers and Applications via shared pool of internet.

·        Cloud computing is completely cost-effective like "PAY-AS-YOU-GO" which means you'll be charged.

1.     Compute: It is the power of a machine which is hardware unit like Processor, Hard disk, RAM for running the applications.

2.     Storage: To store the data safely or permanently in the harddisk is not possible. So, we use cloud to keep the data in safehands with security.

3.     Database: To organize the structured or unstructured data in a server we require My SQL, SQL Server, Oracle etc.

4.     Networking: It is used to connect to the internet or provides connectivity among different users.

Cloud Deployment Models:

  • ·        Requirements keep changing with every organization. Because they have different level of control over their cloud infrastructure.
  • ·        Each cloud deployment model offers different level of management, cost and security.

·        There are 3 types of cloud deployment models,

1. Public Cloud

2. Private Cloud

3. Hybrid Cloud

  1. 1.     Public Cloud: It is a cloud computing infrastructure which provides services to the clients. They can outsource their cloud services to any organization. Public Cloud provides an elastic, cost effective services. The physical infrastructure is completely responsible by cloud service providers only.

     Ex: AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP

      2. Private Cloud: It is a cloud computing infrastructure that is specifically designed for an organization. Only the Organization and its users can access these services. Private cloud offers the provider and user with great cloud infrastructure and security.

·        The physical infrastructure is maintained by organizations or by the 3rd party who provides cloud services.

Ex: Banking.

       3. Hybrid Cloud: It is combination of both public and private cloud. It is the cloud computing infrastructure that benefits from both public and private cloud and enables organizations to use both. Users share non-business critical information to the public cloud and keep business-critical information and data in their private cloud.

Ex: Educational Institutions.

Traditional Data Centers:

·        It is physical infrastructure owned by an organization where it has complete control over its IT assets and data. This is also called On-Premise data centers. Organizations allocate dedicated staff in building, provisioning and managing operational environments like databases, storage, networks and operating systems etc. Compliance and auditing of data is easy.

Cloud Service Models:

·        Infrastructure as a service (IAAS)

·        Platform as a service (PAAS)

·        Software as a service (SAAS)

1.     Infrastructure as a service (IAAS):

It is a cloud computing service where it provides on-demand access to computing resources such as servers, storage, networking and virtualization. Cloud Service Provider (CSP) is responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure. So, we can focus on installing, configuring, managing software and keeping the data secure. We can access IaaS resources as "Pay-as-you-go" basis.

     Platform as a service (PAAS):

It is a cloud computing service which is scalable, flexible platform to develop, deploy, run and manage the applications. PaaS environment is delivered by a third-party service provider.

  •      PaaS solutions which are specific and software development and also typically include:
  1. Cloud Infrastructure such as data centers, storage, network and servers.
  2. Middleware software such as operating system, libraries, frameworks, SDK's etc
  3. User Interface such as Graphical user interface (GUI), command line interface (CLI),      API interface.
  •      Since PaaS is delivered as secure online platform developers can connect through the internet and work on the projects from any location and also can collaborate with their team. Once the work is done they can deploy immediately.

     Software as a service (SAAS):

It is a web-based software delivery model where users can access the software applications via internet. Software is managed from a remote servers and can be delivered in a " one to many " model. It is maintained by the service provider and users can access it through web browsers, mobile apps and APIs. Users pay for subscription fee to access the software if required.

Ex: Netflix, Slack, Spotify, Zoom etc.

    Key Cloud Concepts:

     Scalability:
Increasing or decreasing the capacity of a machine vertically or horizontally.  With cloud scalability companies can quickly increase their computing power and storage capacity without investing in additional hardware. It is important to understand the workloads that we are running and resources we require. This helps us to scale up and scale down or when to add/remove servers and automate the process makes it easier. There are two types of scaling,

      1. Vertical Scaling: It is nothing but increasing/decreasing the capacity of virtual machines.
      2. Horizontal Scaling: It is nothing but increasing/decreasing the capacity of servers.

    Elasticity:
Ability of a system to scale dynamically by its own. If the load is heavy it has to increase the servers by its own and decrease when the load decreases. It helps to minimize the infrstructural cost.

    Agility:
Ability of a system to react immediately to improve its performance. when there is situation that we face issues when the traffic is heavy then the system has to respond by improving its performance to overcome the challenges.

    High Availability:
The ability of a system to operate continuously or to be available without failure for a designated period.

    Fault Tolerance:
The ability of a system or application to remain up and to be running during component and service failures.

  Benifits of Cloud Computing:

  Different Cloud Providers:

Here are the top 10 cloud providers in the market.

    Conclusion:

The aim of the blog is to acquire knowledge about cloud computing, its benefits, cloud deployment models, key cloud concept, how cloud computing is different from traditional data centers and how it benefits the users.
